AUGUST
2002
Dear
E-mail listies,
Shock! Horreur! Fearing's sent you an e-mail newsletter, you said
you wanted 'em and by God, I keep my promises!!. Several reason's
to be in touch actually.
I'd
promised to let you know when the new recording (I still hate
calling them CDs...) was going to be released in the US and so
here it is (fanfare! Drum Roll! Sound of cash register closing!)
Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Rounder Records has decided to release "That's How I Walk"
throughout the US on January 21st 2003. Yes that's correct, 2003.
There are a few reasons for the late release, but primarily, we
decided that it would be suicidal to release the record during
the Kristmas Krush. Knowing how many of you are avid Rod Stewart
fans (ahem!) we thought it wise not to put you all in the terrible
position of having to choose between buying my record or Rod's
Kristmas box set. So January it is. This will give the good folks
at Rounder and the massive machine known as Fearing and Loathing
Music, enough time to gear up for the heroic sales campaign we
intend to unleash on America. I can't tell you all the details,
because that would spoil the surprise, but just know this... no
stone will be left unturned... and... uh... we'll be buying ads
and stuff. OK? With the US release now on track, I will be working
with my friends at The Jim Fleming Agency (flemingartists.com)
to put together extensive US dates. Keep an eye on my web site
for itinerary updates, but rest assured I will be firing up the
spam machine to let you know the when and the where as dates are
confirmed.
On that note, I thought it wise to include a list of upcoming
Canadian and US dates. (Anybody in Alaska reading this might be
pleased to see that I've got several dates up there in November...singing
"Way up Noooorth") If you haven't pressed "delete"
yet, then you'll notice that selected summer dates have "STEPHEN
FEARING BAND" or "ANDY WHITE and The Tall Friends"
written underneath them. Perhaps a short explanation is in order.
Several months ago, I decided to further embrace being a starving
artist, by putting a band together for as many festival dates
as possible. Now it's true that the road to poverty is paved with
bands, but it's also true that misery loves company, so here's
the lineup:
Yours truly - Acoustic Guitar and Vocals (I wrote them, I sing
them)
Colin Cripps - Electric Guitar and Vocals
Bazil Donovan - Bass
Joel Anderson - Drums
All these lads have played in various different bands too numerous
to mention. Suffice to say that they are excellent musicians and
I'm very happy to be working with them. Sadly, we're only playing
two festivals together, but I will be doing everything in my power
to continue adding band dates to my itinerary as schedules and
finances allow.
As for Andy White and The Tall Friends, here's the scoop.
Andy White (andywhite.com for those who don't know him) is a poet/songwriter
from Belfast - Ireland and a really good pal of mine. Last year,
Andy was invited to play The Hillside Festival in my hometown
of Guelph Ontario. Four of us decided that it would be fun to
put together a band to back him during his sets. We rehearsed
several times without him (Andy lives in Australia) so that when
he came to town, we were up to speed. Anyway, to cut a long story
short, the shows went well and we decided that we all wanted to
see the project continue. So this year, after our triumphant return
to Hillside, The Tall Friends will be taking it out on the road.
See the itinerary below for further info. (If you look closely,
you'll see that I will be doing double duty at Hillside with my
band and Andy's).
The Tall Friends are:
Andy
White - Acoustic Guitar and Vocals
Stephen Fearing - Electric Guitar (Yah!) and Vocals
Andrew McPherson - Keyboards, Vocals, Flute, Sax and Percussion
Lisa Hodgson - Bass and Vocals
Brian Hodgson - Drums and Vocals
What else can I tell you? "That's How I Walk"
is strolling about introducing itself to new listeners. True North
has just released the second single (Showbiz) to radio,
so don't hesitate to call now and demand that they play it. Canadian
commercial radio can be a bit mule-ish at times... sometimes you
have to use the carrot AND the stick (neither of which I have!)
CBC has been playing the shite out of it and for that I am very
grateful.
My web site STEPHENFEARING.COM has just been refurbished with
all new bells and whistles thanks to Nancy Nevala at Hinterland
Design. Have a gander when you're next browsing around and please
drop me a line via the web site, I love hearing from you guys...
it reassures me that I'm not alone in this cold world. Oh! I almost
forgot... Many of you have been asking me about a Stephen Fearing
Song book (tablature, chords, lyrics etc.)
Thanks for reading this, thanks for coming out to the shows and
a big thanks for writing to me and staying in touch. I love each
and every one of your little pointy heads.
Cheers!
